The Big Green Picnic launch on 16th January 2008 included the launch of the Footprint Pledge Art Project which is one of Quay Arts' contributions to the Big Green Picnic event.
We want to collect as many footprint pledges as possible between now and the event and hopefully many more at the Big Green Picnic itself on May 24th and 25th 2008. As well as forming a personal record of the changes individual people are going to make, we hope that this will also provide practical evidence of Islanders' commitment to a greener future.
The project involves a simple two stage activity.
1. People decide on an environmental pledge, for instance driving less, or recycling more (something they know they can do, to reduce their carbon footprint) and they record this on the recycled paper provided by us.
2. They then paint one foot with our eco-friendly paint (kindly provided by AURO) and make a print using their foot, on the same piece of paper, thus "sealing" their pledge.
A number of people made a footprint pledge at the launch, including the leader and Chief Executive of the council. We are hoping to provide a range of opportunities (in various venues) for people to make Footprint Pledges. Check this website for more news about this or at www.quayarts.org
